On the 25th August 1958, whilst serving in the British Army in Aden, William Roland Hampshire purchased the present Rolex Submariner Reference 6536/1

Said watch is in extraordinarily well preserved and original condition, due in part to the sad passing of William aged just 26, after which the watch passed to his father and ultimately his brother, from whom I acquired it

Replete with guarantee, anchor, original bracelet (stamped 1 58, denoting 1958 production - the watch is currently fitted on a C&I rivet bracelet stamped 73) - furthermore included in this exemplary set are photographs of William on camp in Aden, his visitors passport, the Salvation testament gifted to him by his aunt and uncle for his 21st birthday, photographs of him wearing the watch on the same 21st birthday, as well as his brother Bryan's British Seaman's card - it is thanks to William's brother, Bryan that I (we) owe an enormous amount of gratitude for not only looking after the watch and the history so respectfully, but for bestowing it to me, and now, for the next fortunate custodian

The case is in excellent and unequivocally unpolished condition, with visible chamfers and thick lugs - there is a small point on the side of the case which appears to be a spot weld, which the original owner's brother suspects to be something their father did for whatever reason during his sparing wearing of the watch as a builder and engineer. Regardless there is no evidence of any damage to the case anywhere, and this confirms the untouched beauty of the case

The dial retains it's gloss with all over patina and typical age spotting, the original lume to both the dial and hands is puffy and intact, reading high on the geiger counter

The watch comes fully serviced and in excellent working order, running at approx -5 seconds per day

Opportunities like this do not come along often - when asked so often "does the watch come with box and papers?" - this watch comes with so, so much more
