Much like the marriage from heaven of black and gold, Rolex have another historic trick up their unwitting sleeve - Tropicalisation, and rare date discs

This white gold Day-Date with no lume dial and hands from the very early Days-of-the-Day-Date, has taken on the most wonderful peachy pink hue over time, and coupled with the impossibly rare Japanese Kanji date disc, it's really verging on the unicorn

I've always said that being in Asia is a sensory ocular overload, because coupled with the immense visual information that is bestowed upon the likes of Tokyo and Hong Kong in the first place, the absolute and total lack of understanding of the typography itself only deepens the aesthetic punch it packs - remove the familiar Monday or Lunes, and replace with a glorious singular graphic symbol, and the recognisable becomes the extraordinary

This is a watch that revels in the same sort of minimalism to which its discs denote the days - a rare bird indeed
